Brushless DC Motor

Brushless DC Gear Motors, as the name suggests, are brushless DC motors with a gear reduction unit, designed to reduce speed and increase torque.

Concept of Gear Ratio

The gear ratio, denoted by “i,” represents the ratio between the instantaneous input speed and output speed of the gear reduction unit. For example, if the input speed is 1500 revolutions per minute (RPM) and the output speed is 25 RPM, the gear ratio is i=60:1. Generally, the gear ratio of a reduction unit is based on the actual ratio, but in some special cases, such as cycloidal gear reducers or harmonic drive reducers, rounding to the nearest whole number is used without the need for a denominator. For example, an actual gear ratio of 28.13 might be rounded and marked as 28.

Calculation of Gear Ratio

  1. Definition: Gear Ratio = Input Speed / Output Speed.
  2. General Calculation: Gear Ratio = Torque × Speed / (9550 × Motor Power × Efficiency Factor).
  3. Calculation for Gear Systems: Gear Ratio = Number of Teeth on Driving Gear / Number of Teeth on Driven Gear (for multi-stage gear reductions, the number of teeth on the driven gear for all meshed gear sets should be multiplied by the number of stages).
  4. Calculation for Belt, Chain, and Friction Wheel Systems: Gear Ratio = Diameter of Driven Wheel / Diameter of Driving Wheel.

Relationship between Motor Output Torque, Speed, and Power

  1. Formula: T=9550P/n, where T is torque, P is power in kilowatts, and n is speed in RPM. This formula is commonly used in engineering to calculate the relationship between torque, power, and speed. Note: When calculating torque through a reducer, factors such as gear transmission efficiency losses should be considered.

  2. Formula for Servo Torque Motor: T=F×R×Gear Ratio. For example, to drive a 100 kg object with R=50 mm at a gear ratio of 1:50, the torque of the servo motor would be calculated as 100×9.8 (gravity acceleration)×0.05×0.02=1.98 Nm.

Calculation Formula For Gear Motor Torque

  1. Speed Ratio = Motor Output Speed / Gearbox Output Speed (Speed Ratio is also known as Transmission Ratio).

  2. Given the motor power, speed ratio, and efficiency factor, the formula for calculating the gearbox torque is as follows: Gearbox Torque = 9550×Motor Power×Gear Ratio×Efficiency Factor / Speed.

  3. Given the torque, gearbox output speed, and efficiency factor, the formula for finding the motor power required for the gearbox is as follows: Motor Power = Torque×Speed / (9550×Gear Ratio×Efficiency Factor).
